For those who are tight on a budget, or just want a fun experiment to try - homemade paper bedding is amazing. It looks and feels like Carefresh brand, without the weird smells or dust! Plus, since you make it in your own home, you know exactly what is going into the bedding. LINK HERE |
Suggestions:
- Use vinegar to rinse the bedding, and skip out on the baking soda. Vinegar works as a deodorizer and will fight some mild bacteria, without harming your pets.
- Put the wet bedding in an old pillow case, tie it off, and throw it in the dryer. The dryer method is much quicker than waiting for the bedding to air dry completely, which took me a few days.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove excess ink. You can also add food coloring, to dye the bedding a fun color!
- I use newspaper because a lot of them have safe, soy-based ink. You can get creative and use things like construction paper or other recyclables. Avoid magazines or anything glossy.
- Do not be afraid to try the blender method mentioned in the tutorial above. It saved me a lot of time!
Good luck, and try not to get your fingers too pruned :)
